After Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ messy divorce, another celebrity couple is calling it quits. British actor and model Jodie Turner-Smith has filed for a divorce to end her marriage with Canadian actor-husband Joshua Jackson. The 37-year-old actress and Jackson have a 3-year-old daughter together. In her filing, Turner-Smith cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split and listed the date of separation as Sept. 13. She has also requested joint custody of their child.
Turner-Smith first met Jackson in 2018 at Usher’s 40th birthday party, and the pair began dating soon after. A few months later, the two were spotted packing on the PDA as they celebrated Turner-Smith’s 37th birthday in New York City. Eventually, the relationship became romantic, and in 2019, Jackson reportedly proposed to Turner-Smith. The duo eloped in December of that year, and a few months later, Turner-Smith shared her happy news on social media with a snap of herself holding their newborn baby daughter.
TMZ reports that, in her filing, Turner-Smith listed their daughter’s name as Juno Rose Diana Jackson. She also asked the court to award her joint legal and physical custody of their daughter and requested that she not receive spousal support. The Queen & Slim actress’s reps have not commented on the situation yet.
While the announcement is a surprise, sources have revealed that the couple’s breakup had been on the horizon for some time. One insider told Daily Mail that the pair had been struggling for some time and that, while Jackson didn’t want the divorce to happen, he agreed it was best for their family moving forward.
Rumors of a potential rift surfaced last September when eagle-eyed fans noticed that the couple had begun unfollowing and refollowing each other on Instagram. Despite that, the two were getting along just as recently as this past September, when they were pictured arm-in-arm at a fashion event and during New York Fashion Week. They were even spotted together at the launch of the fully electric Lotus Emeya vehicle last month. Last week, however, the actress stepped out solo for the Clooney Foundation for Justice’s 2nd annual Albie Awards in New York City.
The divorce filing came just days after Turner-Smith and Jackson were spotted out and about in New York City as they helped promote the film They Call Her Queen. It’s unclear why the couple separated, but they may be ready for a change. Their separation will certainly not be easy for their little girl.
